Public Health Faculty Selected to Participate in the VPCAT Research Scholars Program
Karen Schliep, PhD, MSPH, Division of Public Health faculty, was recently selected to participate in the Vice President’s Clinical & Translational (VPCAT) Research Scholars Program.
The Program has been designed to offer intensive mentorship and support to junior faculty in the University of Utah Health Sciences committed to careers in clinical or translational research.
VPCAT Research Scholars are selected through a competitive application process and participate in a two-year program designed to provide leadership competencies and develop the essential research knowledge and practical skills to be an effective clinical or translational researcher.
Public Health Student Publishes Abstract
Carrie Butler is a University of Utah student working on the duel Masters of Public Health and Public Policy. She recently had her abstract published,Diet and the risk of head-and-neck cancer among never-smokers and smokers in a Chinese population. The study looked at the relationship between diet and HNC risk in the Chinese population to examine whether smoking status has any effect on the risk. Carrie works as the Epidemiology Field Coordinator for the Four Corners States Biomonitoring Consortium in conjunction with the Utah Public Health Lab. She spent a year working at the Huntsman Cancer Center as a graduate assistant with Mia Hashibe. She looks forward to graduating in the spring of 2018 and working on public health policy.
