The Division Welcomes a New Academic Advisor
A big welcome to, Kelbe Goupil, the newest member of the advising team! Kelbe comes to the Division of Public Health from the Office of Admissions at the University of Utah. Kelbe grew up in Indiana and attended Spring Arbor University in Michigan, where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Sociology with a focus on Social Justice. After graduation, she got married to her husband Kyle and they decided to let their love of the outdoors lead them to SLC. She previously worked for Utah Juvenile Defender Attorney’s, then the Office of Admissions here at the U, and will now be advising for the MPH program. She enjoys spending time outside, eating all things Paleo, and hanging with her new puppy, Jayber. She’s a big fan of public health and is excited to be here and start advising our MPH students!

Public Health, Cory McCann, Student Receives AHA Award!
Cory McCann, RN, CCRN, CPH (Provisional), and Master of Public Health student at the Division of Public Health received the American Heart Association Target: Stroke Elite Plus award! Cory was a neuro critical care nurse for ten years and is now passionate about improving systems of care through evidence-based strategies that lead to best outcomes for stroke patients. She has managed the stroke program at University of Utah Health since 2015, and in 2016 led a team through a major process improvement project to successfully shorten Door to Needle times in patients arriving at the Emergency Department with Acute Ischemic Stroke. Finding time to be creative in raising community awareness of the warning signs and symptoms of stroke, Cory’s team produced a music video to share the F.A.S.T. message for World Stroke Day in 2015. Cory currently serves on the Utah Stroke Task Force, and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association Western States Affiliate Stroke Task Force in her free time. Cory enjoys singing, mountain biking, skiing, and any activity that gets her into the mountains with her husband and/or dogs.
Special thanks to all the Division of Public Health alumni that made it to the Spring Field Event and to the talented and dedicated Division of Public Health Alumni Association committee members!
